The band (which consists of Alberta Poon and Dan Grazzini of local electro-rock outfit Reporter) formed in early 2009, dropped its dank-as-hell-debut album, Threats, a few months later, and has since been inciting all-out dance riots with a bevy of synth-heavy pop tracks. Pairing thumped-out beats with Poon’s crystalline, high-pitched wail makes May Ling a cataclysmic firestorm of pumping, pulsing, electronic beauty. A few words of advice: Get swept into the stir the band is creating. Come early for Breakfast Mountain and three of Portland’s best DJs and friends (Copy, E*Rock, and DJ BJ, a.k.a. Doing a 6 way split 12” on High Scores and Records with Jeffrey Jerusalem, Wampire, Guidance Counselor, Breakfast Mt. and Atole. Had an hour long meeting to work out logistics and the front runner for album title so far is “Bong Jovi.” Doesn’t drop till February or so but my gut feeling is this title is going to press.
